Lemonade Woolies Handmade Cards

September 23, 2010

At the start of every year, I have this resolution to promptly send cards for birthdays and well-wishes to friends and relatives. I do well for the first few months until the call of the outdoors beckons me in the spring. Then I lose my sense of time and before I know it, many more birthdays have passed without me sending anything. *Sigh

Well, it’s the last quarter of the year but it’s never too late to make amends. So recently, I took the time to stock up on my handmade cards (I was running low). Then off to the post I go to mail some of them to make up for past dues.

Here’s a few to share today. I have a pack of felt stickers from Basic Grey called Lemonade Woolies. I used it to make 6 cards with various sentiments.

Do You Want Some More Tea?

September 23, 2010

A package arrived the other day and Dexter barked his ferocious puppy bark at the UPS lady making her almost trip as she scrambled away from our front porch after hastily dropping a large box by our front door. I picked up the box which had a big Amazon logo on it, confused because I don’t remember purchasing anything lately. Then Mica exclaimed, “Oh it must be Rinoa’s gift from Uncle Jay and Tita Ivy!” Rinoa who was doing her schoolwork, got up from her chair and sprinted towards me. “I know what it is! It’s a tea set!”, she said even before opening the box. “How do you know it’s a tea set?”, I asked. “Because that’s what I told them I wanted for my birthday!”, she replied.

Inside the box, we found a large pink cylinder box. I said “I don’t think it’s a tea set. I think it’s a hat because that looks like a hat box!” (Joking of course, but I wanted to see how Rinoa would react.) Rinoa who was trying take out the cylinder box from the Amazon box said in a disappointed voice, “Why would they give me a hat? I asked for a tea set!” And I said, “Well now, whatever you get, you should be thankful. You know that, right?” “I know,” she said in reply.

Of course, it was a tea set. And Rinoa was ecstatic! The following day, she had tea and crumpets with Mica. (Well, actually it was watermelon juice and cheesecake brownies.) Thanks Uncle Jay, Tita Ivy, and Baby Jessi!

Rinoa's lovely new tea set.

The Tea Cup

Bottoms up!

My Budding Entrepreneur

September 21, 2010

I remember I was 10 years old when I first ventured in business. Hair ribbons were the fashion among young girls back then, and at that time, I learned how to macrame yarn into colorful ribbons which my schoolmates loved. I figured since they loved the ribbons so much, I’d sell them. And sell I did – 5 pesos (which was worth $0.25 back then) for 1/2 yard of macramed ribbon which I made during recess. I made good money with it for a year (supplied me with lots of cafeteria money) until I got tired of making them! But since then, I’ve had several fun and successful entrepreneurial adventures.

Now that Mica has taken an interest in jewelry making, I coaxed her into making some to sell. I’m always telling her, “You’re never too young to be an entrepreneur.” Now the goal here is not to make her greedy but to teach her the value of money. This one she’s wearing, she made for herself but she made two more that are available for sale in her blog. It will really make her day if you come check it out :)

Love this picture of Mica!

I told her that once people start buying from her, 50% of her profits she should keep in the bank and the other 50% she can spend as she wishes. She’s not too thrilled about saving some money but it’s part of the lesson.

Con mucho amor,
