Winter has been mild this year – still it is not helping me blog any better during my least favorite season. There’s just something in the cold, bleak air that inhibits words from forming in my head. That is not to say that my year is not off to a good start. On the contrary, I’ve been very productive and am looking forward to some exciting events in the next few months. Anyways, I just finished my Paris Travel Journal which I worked on in between other projects and responsibilities and after my recent visit to the lovely city. Here’s a look at some of the pages:
I’d like to share a few pages from one of my journals to show you how you can use the junk journals that I’ve been making. First off, for the cover of this journal, I used one of Mica’s old shorts that I kept (one that she wore when she was 6 years old.) I might add more frou frou to the cover in the future, but right now, this is what it looks like:
Bugs and stars on the spine.
The back pocket of the shorts now goes on the inside cover. Perfect for inserting little extras. Again, I might embellish the pocket in the future, but for now, it is what it is.
I love painting over printed material while leaving some parts of the image exposed. This leaves me with a focal point and gives me enough space to journal on.
A rolled up note tied with a ribbon for messages I want to keep hidden.
This page was fun to make because it actually includes a sampling of an herbal tea that I recently purchased, trapped in a packaging tape. It gives my journal a fruity scent.
Yes, I wrote about the Royal Wedding. I find it very romantic!
These are the first few pages of my altered book journal which talks about my maternal grandmother.
On the left is a brief description of my grandmother’s family and on the right is a photo of my grandparents. Love this photo of them. This page spread is quite chunky – I used modeling paste to create the texture.
On this page spread, I did a collage about what I remember most about my grandmother. Whenever I would visit her, she was always in the kitchen cooking. I loved the food that she prepared. I also wrote a few things about her – mostly describing her when my mom was growing up. My aunt supplied the information.
It was interesting to see that while I was doing these pages, Mica and Rinoa were very curious to know who they (my grandparents) were as they saw the photos. They also couldn’t wait to see what else I put in the journal – they very much want to know more about my family history. I love it!
