Happy 2010!

A new year usually means new beginnings for most people. With this in mind, I would like to share an excerpt from a very inspiring book.
“Live your passion. It means that when you get up for work every morning, every single morning, you are pumped because you get to do the things that interest you the most in the world. You don’t live for vacations because you don’t need a break from what you’re doing – working, playing, and relaxing are one and the same. You don’t even pay attention to how many hours you’re working because to you, it’s not really work. You’re making money, but you’d do whatever it is you’re doing for free.” – from Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk
In the book, Vaynerchuk asks “Are you living or just earning a living? You spend so much time at work, why waste it doing anything other than what you love the most.” Whenever I hear people describe their job then talk about what they do for fun, it saddens me. I always wonder – why have separate lives? Life is too short to waste time doing anything but what you love to do.
If you’re out of work, he also has a food for thought for you – “Did you jump up every morning eager to go to that job you lost? If not, why are you looking for another one just like it?” The people I admire the most are the ones that are brave enough to break out of their rut and pursue their passion – whatever it is. Passion is everything and I believe a life without passion is not worth living at all.
May all this encourage you to start the new year driven to pursue a life filled with what makes you come alive instead of just settling.
As a parting note, here’s Vaynerchuk’s three simple rules – definitely worth living by:
1. Love your family
2. Work superhard.
3. Live your passion.
(Of course, if you want to know his advise on how to actually live a life you love, you’d have to read the book.)
