Peanut Butter and Banana Wrap
Posted on | January 12, 2010 | 4 Comments
Here’s my version of a kicked-up PB&J sandwich. It’s great for an afternoon snack or for lunch, served with fruits or vegetables. It only takes a few minutes to prepare – perfect for busy schedules. Mica and Rinoa love it!
Peanut Butter and Banana Wrap
1. Spread peanut butter on a flour tortilla.
2. Place a banana, sliced in half lengthwise, on top.
3. Drizzle with honey.
4. Fold like a burrito.
5. Toast or pan-grill on the stove.

Pater Noster

For this post, I wanted to share a video of Mica reciting the Lord’s Prayer in Latin, which I had her memorize. (Latin is part of her foreign language course, the other part being Spanish.)
“Foreign language provides one with entry into a worldview different from one’s own. If it is important that our young value diversity of point of view, there is no better way to achieve it than to have them learn a foreign language.” – Neil Postman in The End of Education

Here are a few photos from our Christmas weekend with my brother’s family who visited us from New York.

| We had a huge amount of snowfall that weekend, with snowflakes the size of dimes. The cousins couldn’t resist playing in the snow. |
That weekend, we also celebrated Jessi’s 8-month birthday. As always, there had to be cake.

Stop Drinking Bottled Water

The facts about bottled water presented by Online Education.
While a large portion of the world desperately seeks clean drinking water, the United States and other countries spend billions on bottled water when perfectly clean drinking water is readily available. Not only are we needlessly spending money on water with lower standards than those of tap water, we are also filling our landfills with billions of pounds of oil-based plastics that take thousands of years to degrade.

Architecture Portfolio #2 – Vernon Hills
Posted on | January 5, 2010 | 4 Comments
Several months ago, I posted a sample from my architecture portfolio. I meant to post more but never found the time to do it.
I think now is a good time. For the past year or two, I’ve been on a path of self-exploration and discovery. I’m still treading the path but I know I’m not going back to the construction industry (not that I’ve lost my love for architecture, that will always remain). I’m pursuing something more self-fulfilling – but still in keeping with my creative spirit. Sharing another one of my past projects is my way of saying goodbye to a past life.
This is one of a series of houses I designed with a partner for a high-end residential village in a Chicago suburb.

Happy 2010!

A new year usually means new beginnings for most people. With this in mind, I would like to share an excerpt from a very inspiring book.
“Live your passion. It means that when you get up for work every morning, every single morning, you are pumped because you get to do the things that interest you the most in the world. You don’t live for vacations because you don’t need a break from what you’re doing – working, playing, and relaxing are one and the same. You don’t even pay attention to how many hours you’re working because to you, it’s not really work. You’re making money, but you’d do whatever it is you’re doing for free.” – from Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk
In the book, Vaynerchuk asks “Are you living or just earning a living? You spend so much time at work, why waste it doing anything other than what you love the most.” Whenever I hear people describe their job then talk about what they do for fun, it saddens me. I always wonder – why have separate lives? Life is too short to waste time doing anything but what you love to do.
If you’re out of work, he also has a food for thought for you – “Did you jump up every morning eager to go to that job you lost? If not, why are you looking for another one just like it?” The people I admire the most are the ones that are brave enough to break out of their rut and pursue their passion – whatever it is. Passion is everything and I believe a life without passion is not worth living at all.
May all this encourage you to start the new year driven to pursue a life filled with what makes you come alive instead of just settling.
As a parting note, here’s Vaynerchuk’s three simple rules – definitely worth living by:
1. Love your family
2. Work superhard.
3. Live your passion.
(Of course, if you want to know his advise on how to actually live a life you love, you’d have to read the book.)
