Rinoa’s Artwork

This week, I made Rinoa a portfolio where all her artworks are kept. And for Friday Art, I thought I would share some of her masterpieces.

Treasure Chest

I decoupaged this unadorned chest using paper that matches the kraft finish so that I don’t have to cover the whole area. Then I added a few simple embellishments and there you go – a treasure chest that holds some of Mica’s keepsakes. Rinoa has one too.
High Contrast Rendering
Posted on | February 25, 2009 | No Comments
I just finished a class by Scott Kelby called “Professional Photo Retouching Techniques” at Kelbytraining.com and one of the tricks I have learned is how to do a high contrast rendering.
Here are some examples of my take on high contrast rendering. These are pictures of Mica taken in our backyard in 2004 when she fell into the “poncho craze” – a fad that died out really fast. If you mouseover the images, you will see what the originals looked like.
In the first picture, I used the same texture that I talked about in my previous blog entry.

Fun with Texture
Posted on | February 24, 2009 | 2 Comments
Found this really cool texture by Ishkamina from Flickr that is so fun to play with. I used it in this picture to add a subtle sparkle in the background, which interestingly enough makes my subject pop out.

Last month, on Troy’s birthday, Rinoa greeted him with a very special song:
And today, it’s my mom’s birthday. Happy birthday Nanny! Rinoa has a special song for you too:

New Eyeglasses
Posted on | February 17, 2009 | 2 Comments
Troy, Mica, and I got some cool prescription eyeglasses today. We had to wait a few weeks while Zenni Optical celebrated Chinese New Year before they shipped our order. It was quite a wait but the package arrived today and we’re all excited.

| Mica was the most ecstatic because her prescription actually changed. And she ordered two eyeglasses – not that she needs more than one. This one with the red and black frame and flower design is only $8. |

| This blue one with the stars is only $13. Not bad, huh? |
Showerboard Whiteboard
Posted on | February 16, 2009 | 1 Comment
We have an old, small whiteboard, only 16″ x 22″. And it’s done its part. It was only meant for Troy’s notes but since we started homeschooling, Mica and I use it as well. Of course, we can’t forget Rinoa and all her doodlings.

We’ve been wanting a bigger whiteboard without the price. Troy’s solution: an 8′ x 4′ showerboard at Home Depot for $13 – not a bad substitute. He installed it this evening and now, we have all this white space just screaming at us to write on it. The downside? It’s not magnetic. So I guess all those magnets will just have to go on the fridge.
